Short day

3 hours goes by fast when you're inputting email addresses. I'm sorry I can't tell you a more glamorous story about being an intern but it's not all drug parties* and gallery openings.

Now I'm off to have a meeting regarding my future as a recent college grad.

Love,
the anonymous intern

oops

i forgot the grilled provolone and tomato ingredients. next week...

today i was drafting a rejection letter for poetry submissions. saying "no" might seem easy enough, but there's quite a bit of etiquette involved in saying "no." so, it took a whileto write something that seems like it didn't take a long time to write.

i was also working on a secret project for half tthe day. although i am an anonymous source, the infomation will not be leaked.

everyone should sign up for the new zingmagazine reviews email. that will increase our circulation by three. perhaps this wasn't humorous enough to get your email address. would you like some fine cham-pag-nya?

canada gallery dance party? hmmmm.

computers are evil

Got back from Ireland this week. I wish Spring Break was longer.

Yesterday and today I spent my entire time in the office working on the slide show of our new issue to show at the launch party. Imovie was not working for me at all, so now I'm doing it in Powerpoint. But Powerpoint is being REEEEEALLY slow. And for the most part I still have to open up all the tif files in Photoshop (which is being equally slow), then save them as Photoshop files, because tif and jpeg refuse to work in Powerpoint. Also, many of the magazine pages are in Quark format, but Quark is not on my computer, so I have to open them on the other computer, convert them to pdf, then open the pdf on this computer and convert it to Photoshop. OH MY GOD. This is driving me nuts. I hate computers.

But I love Ireland

And I especially love the Irish boys with their sexy, sexy accents.

P.S. The Manchester International Festival serves tasty hors d'oeuvres. Strawberry shortcake mmm mm.

Busy

There's something in the air making everyone in the office crazy. There was lack of sleep, complaints of hunger, and general groaning and that was just my first hour here. Haha.

Spring should be here soon.

Back to work

I haven't been interning for a week because I have been sick. Since I have started interning for zing I had had the following ailments:
-Food poisoning (expiration dates are not sugguestions)
-Bladder infection (always pee after you do it)
-Influenza (also known as the flu, using the full name makes it sound serious, and I got influenza twice since starting at zing)
-Sinus infection (fun fact- you can get a sinus infection from cocaine use or scuba diving)
-Upper Respitory infection (fun fact- it's not fun)

My body has been so full of germs, I won't blame it on zing, but it might be related to being an intern.

I hope to be healthy for the rest of my time at zing. Today I felt good. I was very helpful, trying to make up for all my missed sick time. I learned that if you want to advirtise on some site you have to tell them how much money you are willing to spend before they give you a price.

That's it for now gang,
Spring starts tomorrow, but who knows.

Love the anonymous intern.

mercury

when mercury is in retrograde, there will be a lot of coincidences. there will be no coindences in this post.

so i sorted through magazines that featured or mentioned zingmagazine. these will be archived for future reference. good thing i know how to read greek, or else i would have never recognized Χιλαρι Κλιντον with her husband Bill Clinton on the cover of a mid-90s Epsilon (E) Magazine. This issue features an interview with Devon Dikeou. Who knew so many Greek magazines would love zingmagazine?

note to self: bring provolone, tomatoes, and bread to make grilled provolone and tomato sandwiches for everybody on thursday. these are superior to GAC, which i didn't know what this signified until devon informed me at empire diner.

oh and if you see any gnomes, please do us all a favor and step on them. gnomes are creepy.

astrology?

According to our computer guy, mercury is in retrograde... or something?

Which means that electronics are supposed to be crapping out. Ours definitely are today. I'm trying to use iMovie, but it keeps freezing, so I have to force-quit it over and over. Same thing with Photoshop. I'm trying to import tiff files in iMovie, but it won't let me. So I try to open them in Photoshop and save them as jpeg, but iMovie also isn't liking jpeg for some reason either. So I have to save them as Photoshop files. But Photoshop isn't liking tiff files either, and every couple times I try to open the tiff files, Photoshop freezes and I have to force-quit it and then reopen it. ARGH!

Also, Anna and I were trying to figure out how to burn some photos onto a CD, but it wasn't working. Where is Brandon when we need him? We ended up getting it to work if we burned them onto a DVD-R instead of a CD-R.

What is going on?

I won't be here tomorrow or next week because I'm going to Ireland! Exciting! See you all then...

playing hooky

i will go to denver on thursday instead of working on friday.

so i must write today. it's often difficult to retain anonimity o n this thing. especially when my keyboard or internt or both aren't cooperating. instead i will be the autonomous intern. sort of what certain regions in spain and the balkans are looking for. i'll be the kosovo of zingmagazine, or the cataluna., if you will.

today i did ZingRecs(TM). this eventually led to a conversation w/ anna about capitalization, and why can't people understand that zingmagazine is zingmagazine, not Zingmagazine nor Zzing magazine, and certainly not Zing Magazine. it's lower-case for a reason, damn it. does not one appreciate the deliberation behead this lower-case title? the world may never know.

on the topic of words that start w/ "capitali," i had a particularly strange dream last night. i had to take pills to not become a zombie and remain a capitalist. i failed to take these pills, and so i became an anti-capitalist zombie. sort of an oxymoron, isn't it? well, anyway, i woke up doing my best zombie impression and simulatneously making a noise as though horror-striken. what weirdness.

A new passion

I love to archive old invitations.
Probably because I get to use an awesome label maker. I want one for my birthday, which is on Sunday.
Someday I will archive stuff for my family so that our moral decline can be documented in paper form, but first I need that label maker.

blaaaaah

If I don't get away from the computer screen soon, I think my eyes are going to start bleeding. I spent almost all of today looking up Parisian art galleries, so we can start a "zingrecs" for Paris. At least I got to use my French skills to read all the websites and then e-mail them asking to be put on their mailing lists. Though staring at a computer screen for this many hours is sapping all my energy...

It was 57 degrees today. Crazy! I'm used to it being at least 25 degrees colder than that up north.

I need to find an activity for tonight. Preferably one that doesn't involve sitting on my ass in a bar all night. Let's get some excitement, people.

Young Japanese Artists Book Fair starts Sunday! Hooray!

new things

why is it suddenly so warm? what is it , march or something?

luckily i had outside duties today...how pleasant. going to laumont to gather prints, going to the new museum store to gather magazines, going to tony's new spot to drop off magazines.

To quote a famous poet:

“New York’s lovely weather

is a monstrous mouthful

of poison.”

To quote the same poet as above:

“The nineties are the new eighties.”

If anything, take this to heart.

zingparties are super fun

Haven't had a chance to write in this thing for a while.

Preparations for the party went up to the last minute, no surprise. Streeeeeess. But the party itself was awsome. The pinatas and musical chairs went over quite well. Adults who play party games are more competitive than one would think. It was a pretty amusing sight.

There are a ton of condom stickers left over. Maybe I'll take them and plaster the city. If you see an inch-and-a-half big sticker of an artist or a random piece of art stuck somewhere, you'll know who to blame. Fun!

I am hungry. Time to go home.

There are perks

Today we got an advanced copy of the lastest Hanson album. I was unaware that they were still making music. You learn something new everyday.
