too many commas

Today has been another fantastic day at Zing. My head is a little dizzy though from counting letters from these invites so we can order letters for these display things. I think i counted too many commas on that last one but it might have been because i was distracted by the geology program i was watching on the national geographic channel.

tomorrow i'm going to block island and i'm very excited. I haven't been on an actual beach-like vacation in i think 3 years (unless you count the quick visit to freezing cold north berwick in scotland about three weeks ago. i went swimming despite the cold).

tonight i plan on watching the mountains episode of "planet earth" and i can't wait. If any of who still haven't seen planet earth it is essential that you do. today (while counting letters) i watched part of the desert episode. it had elephants in it. it looked like this.

okay, thats it. more from this anonymous intern next week.

there are 49 "A's" in this email.

Welcome to zing

Dear Zing Magazine,

Hello! I am your new intern! Today has been a wonderful day in the joyful practice of interning. I learned how to print labels and tabs and assemble binders and then mail packages via DHL. I am currently drenched in sweat from carrying a package that weighed more than myself from the post office, which won me the respect of many a post office worker and I feel very proud.

I am really enjoying your office! This is by far the cleanest, most well organized, and pretty office that i have ever worked in. And its also air conditioned which is very nice for my current sweaty disposition. I was told to make this blog funny but instead I think i'm sounding more like an old British lady.

Here is something fun I did last weekend: http://youtube.com/watch?v=kZZqg1afScQ

I didn't shoot that video but it is of the "77 BOADRUM" show where japanese/experimental noise band the Boredoms organized 77 drummers to play simultaneously in Brooklyn Bridge park. Probably one of the single most fantastic shows/events that i have ever been to. They stopped playing right when the sun set so as everyone was leaving all the fireflies came out and it was like this ultra magical beautiful fantastic rock and roll moment.

So thats it for now. I'm going to make some more tabs and labels and enjoy the air conditioning some more. You will definitely hear from me again!

All my love,

Anonymous Intern

Cat on a Hot Tin Fire Escape

It's soooo hot! I'm a californian, i'm not used to this kind of heat-death. and, as i've been hearing non-stop for the past hour and a half, there's no power uptown. Guess the old cronies on the UES will have to resort fanning themselves with their maids.

In other news, I finished my gallery list! that was a long project wow. But now i know every gallery in new york city--and their addresses and phone numbers. I also sent my first rejection letter today. I never knew the rejection process was so political, but what isn't these days I guess. Speaking of, Happy July of the Fourth everyone! and enjoy the long weekend? or not so long weekend because its on a wednesday which makes it impossible to go away to "celebrate." And, maybe by that time we'll have the good weather and the power back.

Work- Is Done!

Busy making lists....making lists....if anyone (other than anna) is actually reading this post, that person should check out The Thing -From Another World!, (in case you didn't get that the thing is from another world) screening tonight in Bryant Park.

"A frozen alien is discovered at the North Pole, and trouble starts when it accidentally thaws out. A legendary monster movie based on a story by John Campbell, the “father” of modern science fiction, and produced by Howard Hawks."

Fun fun! Bring popcorn! I'll be at the big tree on the left with the long branches and green leaves.

Postage 41 cents

Today was really awesome. I got to design the invite for the next zing party, which was really cool-- and I got in a fight with a woman at the post office. If you have ever had the pleasure of visiting the canal st. post office you know what i mean when i say it is torturing. waiting in ONE line, in an enourmous space where there should be at least six, i think, for 45 minutes minimum with a package that already has postage on it, just needs to be stamped. stamped! come on, give me the stamp, I'll do it myself! Anyway, when my turn finally came, i met my friendly neighborhood postal worker. She must have had about 300 lbs on me (no joke) and when I told her i'd like to send my packages media mail she gave me a look like i had just slaguhtered her first born. i think it was a hex. either way, I decided at that point to do what i needed, and to be really really nice about it because otherwise she'd hunt me down for 10 years and kill my first born (or maybe just my dog, i dunno if i'll want kids). So i asked her why I was being screwed on the postage (in the nicest way possible) and she responded by lecturing me (aka repeating the same statments over and over) "it says magazine. if it is magazine, it does not go media mail. you are making the postal companies lose money and it is illegal. you must pay." or something like that. so I endured, until she told me the price to send my package to Canada, then i'd had enough. "ok. thank you. bye." was all i said. i turned and left.
so it wasn't a fight, it was more like an argument. and i was the submissive. well its a good story i think. maybe. the zing invite is gonna look really good though, if i do say so myself.

Jeeze

so I've been making calls to stores all around the world and the u.s. I was in the office all alone, and just as i was about to call tate's comics, the phone rang. the man's voice on the phone was an accent I didn't recognize, 'he must be from abroad...or slow' i thought. he asked about the latest issue and why he hadn't recieved it. i told him it wasn't out yet, that it was delayed. before i knew it he was grilling me about why the latest issue hadn't come out. he proceedes to tell me he was going to cancel his subscription, that he was outraged. being only my second week, i was freaking out, 'i'm just an intern!' i said, 'maybe i have my information wrong!' all i wanted to do was hang up and get out! of this situation. 'maybe you should call back another time and speak to someone else' i said. he gave me his name and number and hung up. Jeeze. what kind of name is jeeze? he makes me want to sigh 'jeeze.'
later, i found out that this horrible experience was all the great prank plan of none other than danny. thanks danny.
at least now i had something to write about in my blog today, and a good laugh.
